Women’s Rights are Human Rights

[Women’s Rights are Human Rights]

This booklet has a very revolutionary look, it compares two situations that took place in very different decades:
◆In 1998, a Japanese journalist Yayori Matsui, brought unresolved issues to the public on the so-called “comfort women”: women used for prostitution during the World War II
◆In 2017 the “Pussyhat Project” was really relevant. It was a movement that then became a symbol of great prominence related to women's rights.
In 1998, the Japanese journalist Yayori Matsui founded the "Violence Against Women in War Network". And in 2000 she managed to take the topic of ‘comfort women’ to court, which made people more aware of it. This "issue" had been hidden by the Japanese Government until then, and due to the fact that Yayori Matsui took action, many of the women started to share their testimonies.

During the World War II, women from certain Asian countries such as China, the Philippines and South Korea were enticed with job offers and then imprisoned in "comfort stations" where they were used for prostitution. They were often injected with substances like opium, and were constantly raped by 40/50 soldiers in the Japanese army each day. When they try to fight against this situation, they suffered horrible consequences, some of which were mutilated or even killed.
I related this problem with the "Pussyhat Project", subject debated more recently due to demonstrations in favor of women's rights. The name ‘pussyhat’ was created from what the current President of America, Donald Trump said about women "Grab them by the pussy". This has led people to unite against a cause that is worth fighting for!
